I put out a newsletter in which I send five links to things I found interesting every two weeks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some common questions I've received about Bennett's Five Links.
Wait, do I know you?
If you’ve made it this far it’s probably because I’ve asked you to sign up to my newsletter.
So.. hey - I’m that guy that just asked you to sign up to my newsletter!
But just in case you made your way here without my nagging perhaps I should introduce myself ..
Hi! I’m Bennett. I’m a corporate lawyer based in Perth, Australia. This is my self-indulgent website.
Ok. So - Newsletter? What's that about?
Great question. Bennett's Five Links is a regular newsletter with links to various content I've found interesting over the past two weeks. How many links? Five!
… and why should I care what you find interesting?
That’s fair. Well, I think you will find this stuff interesting too..
I don’t want to break it all down into pre-defined categories or put labels on it. And that makes it hard to describe the kind of content you should expect to receive.
The best way to describe it is: I’m hoping to send you content that you (1) might not have already seen; and (2) will make you smile or be useful to you or might make you think about something in a different light. I might not meet this goal with each of my Five Links, but I’m optimistic at least one of them will hit the mark.
You can see an archive of past Bennett's Five Links at this link.
And you can see some of the content that I found interesting but didn't make the cut for the newsletter at this link.
Ok - but why would I want you to bother me with emails?
You know, for an imaginary potential newsletter-subscriber, you’re coming across as a little aggressive. But here goes my answer.
I think you should subscribe to Bennett’s Five Links because I’m creating the kind of email that I’d like to receive on a Friday morning.
I’ve always had an affinity for Fridays - everyone I’ve ever dealt with has always been a better version of themselves at the end of the week.
And most of us start our Fridays by checking our emails. I’d like you to see the next issue of Bennett’s Five Links in your inbox and look forward to opening it. I want to achieve a ‘yay - it’s the weekend’ kind of vibe.
Help me help you start your weekend off right.
Is this some scam where I sign up and then you make money off me somehow?
Look, I expect Bennett’s Five Links will remain free for a very long time; but if Spotify wants to pay me millions of dollars to sign exclusively with them I’m open to that kind of deal.
It’s possible I might play around with sponsorship if we can reach a decent number of subscribers. I’m likely to use affiliate links where I can — although doing so won’t ever affect the nature of my content. I’m also likely to plug side projects I work on from time-to-time.
But I have no plans to charge for subscriptions. And I’m very firm on respecting your privacy and never passing on your information to anyone else. If you ever start to feel as though I’m becoming a bit too slick with the whole thing I want you to reach out to me and tell me to pull my head in. Deal?
I have a question that you didn’t answer!
Contact me and let me know your question. If it’s a good one I’ll add it to this list.
